D. Andy Vessely
Principal Engineer and President
Mr. Vessely has over 24 years of experience as a Geotechnical Engineer and Engineering Geologist in the Pacific Northwest. He received his Masters degree from U.C. Berkeley under the direction of Profs. H.B. Seed, R. Seed, J. Mitchell and T. Brekke. Mr. Vessely’s areas of interest include earth dams and embankments, earthquake engineering, seismic response analyses, landslide evaluation, geotechnical engineering for water supply and transportation projects, and expert witness services. He manages projects ranging in complexity from dynamic deformation analyses for high-hazard embankment dams subjected to seismic shaking to more routine foundation designs for bridges and tanks. His geologic and engineering training and experience provide him the background necessary to develop cost-effective geotechnical engineering solutions. Representative projects include the following:
- Earthquake Stability, Barney Reservoir Dam Raise, Yamhill, Oregon
- Port Westward Co-Generation Plant Foundations, Clatskanie, Oregon
- Seismic Liquefaction Evaluation, Fern Hill Water Treatment Plant Expansion, Forest Grove, Oregon
- Portland Airport Light Rail Settlement Litigation, Portland, Oregon
- Bull Run Dam No. 2 Embankment Earthquake Stability, Sandy, Oregon
- The Dalles Dam Spillway Training Wall Foundation Design, The Dalles, Oregon
- SE 4th Avenue Railroad Bridge, Canby, Oregon
- Tualatin Valley Water District, North Transmission Pipeline Extension, Washington County, Oregon
- Seismic Ground Response Evaluation, Powell Butte 50 MG Reservoir, Portland, Oregon
- Liquefaction Evaluation - Beaver Co-Generation Plant, Clatskanie, Oregon
- Water Conduits No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 Geologic Hazard Assessment, Bull Run Watershed, Oregon
- West Side Light Rail Zoo Station Landslide Mitigation, Portland, Oregon
- Portland Groundwater Pump Station, Value Engineering, Portland, Oregon
- Dynamic Stability Evaluation, Timothy Meadows Dam, Harriet Lake Dam and Frog Lake Dam; Oak Grove Hydroelectric Project, Oregon
- Astoria Column Visitors Center, Astoria, Oregon
- Credence Building Distress Litigation, Hillsboro, Oregon
- Seismic Vulnerability Study for City of Portland Selected Water Supply Facility, Portland, Oregon
Mr. Vessely is the author of 13 technical papers covering geotechnical aspects of earthquake engineering and landslide evaluation. |
